Thank you. White liberals are having their Rodney King/George Floyd moment, as Trump is now expanding the police state to them. They'll face the same question they've always faced: Will they be good enough allies to help even themselves, or will they seek the shelter of their privilege? In Minneapolis, it's clear that Black and Indigenous voices will need to lead.

Thank you. This is a shocking time, made even worse by the fact that my state’s elected officials have committed themselves to Trump sycophancy. I keep writing letters to my Rebup senators opposing these indefensible actions, and keep receiving limp excuses from their (probably unpaid) interns. And the delusionary chaos from the top continues unabated.

But I do appreciate your work here. Thanks for keeping the focus on the outrageous excesses of these enablers and ghouls. It will take a massive turnout, from all people who find these actions unacceptable, to shift the government this coming November — but if not now, when? Your words help move people to engage.

And thanks for your amazing book about Turtle Island. I gave that as a New Year’s gift to several of my culinary friends this year — it was a massive hit!

Intelligent, informed and balanced article - but lacking none of the disgust. I hope this narrative holds the line. I fear Trumps goons retaliation to honest mass outpourings of grief will be brutal - not just those for Renee but for America's democracy - which is now in tatters. Be careful. We in the UK are watching with horror and disbelief. American versus American. Too close to Nazism.

Protests should be encouraged. But as you say, they must be disciplined and resolute. Any talk of violence must be discouraged. There must be vigilance against agitators who instigate any kind of violence. And protests are not the only solution. There should be boycotts as well. But now is the time. We need to have a massive peaceful reaction. Not just once in a while but practically every day. We need the enthusiasm of the youth but also the experience of the elders. Seize the time, peacefully. Our strength will be our numbers, and the righteousness of our resistance.

We must not forget her and her family just because the news cycle moves on.

Whereas it is very upsetting that ICE have killed another person, the fact that the person they killed this time was a white, blond woman, with at least one kid who is now an orphan, will upset more white people than if it had been a black or brown man, like most of the previous shootings. It will therefore get more publicity for longer, and hopefully help get more people out to vote against republicans in special elections and the midterms.
